About me

I am a Research Scientist  in the Earth & Environmental Sciences Area at Lawrence Berkeley National Lab (Berkeley Lab) with 15+ years of research in remote sensing (hyperspectral signal/image processing, LiDAR), data science, and machine learning applied to environmental applications. This includes:

  1. Ecosystem characterization and monitoring (species composition and biodiversity, multi-temporal analysis for vegetation phenology, crop monitoring, forest health)
  2. Investigation of soil-plant-atmosphere interactions, including  GHG quantification and monitoring
  3. Machine learning approaches for data integration and scaling.

I was born in Italy, and I hold a joint Ph.D. degree (Cotutelle) in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the University of Iceland and in Information and Communication Technologies from the University of Trento (Italy). Before joining Berkeley Lab,  I spent one year as a Postdoctoral Researcher at the Signal Processing Laboratory of the Electrical and Computer Engineering Faculty at the University of Iceland.

I am a Principal Investigator and leader of research teams with 30+ publications in international journals, and 60+ oral presentations to academic, business, and governmental venues.

I also mentor undergrad and grad students within STEM programs.
